Green Lane Cogeneration Project

Toronto Hydro Energy Services and Ontario Plants Propagation Limited (OPPL) plan to build own and operate a 10 MW Cogeneration Plant to be located at 38024 John Wise Line, St. Thomas, Ontario. The Cogeneration Plant will utilize the landfill gas from the Green Lane Landfill Site to produce both electricity and thermal energy.

The project will provide renewable electricity under the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program through the use of landfill gas resources. The Cogeneration Plant is expected to be in operation in 2013. The project still requires a number of approvals and permits in order to commence construction by 2012.

Landfill gas fuel is available from the decomposition of waste at the landfill site which provides methane for the cogeneration plant. The cogeneration plant will convert the methane into electricity and heat to be returned to the OPPL greenhouses located next to the cogeneration plant.

Toronto Hydro Energy Services is currently in the development stage undertaking engineering design, planning and permitting. Community and stakeholder presentations are underway.

A public meeting to discuss the project and address any public concerns is scheduled for October 27th, 2010. For more information on the notice for the public meeting, please click here.

Toronto Hydro Energy Services is also completing the Ministry of Environment Renewable Energy Approval process under O.Reg.359/09. Reports relating to this process can be found from the links below.
